About

Jarvis Kenrick

A talented footballer and cricket player, Jarvis Kenrick was born in Sussex in 1852. He represented Wanderers, Old Lancing and Clapham Rovers. While playing for the latter, Kenrick scored the first ever goal in the FA Cup – one of the most prestigious cup competitions in the world. He would later lift the trophy on three consecutive occasions with Wanderers in 1876, 1877 and 1878 (getting on the scoresheet in 1877 and 1878). In his later years, Jarvis Kenrick lived and died in East Blatchington, Seaford.

Therefore, it seemed fitting to name the most prestigious football league in Seaford after a local legend who was one of the pioneers of arguably the most renowned domestic cup competition in world football.

The Jarvis Kenrick Trophy was established in 2023 after disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic led to the postponement of the Year 6 football league. It is open to all primary schools in the Seahaven area of Sussex.
